Shit You Should Know

It's Scary In There

Last night, I had another weird experience. Part of me wants to blame my lack of sleep and, of course, my vivid imagination for the unusual dream. If you’ve been keeping up with my blog you know these sort of things are nothing to which I am a stranger. See here and here.

I had dozed off around 2-ish and woke up to a light tapping at my bedroom door and no it wasn't the Raven. This isn’t an unusual occurrence as I have two children that from time to time come to my room during the night because they have had a bad dream or what not. I have my kids trained to not walk into my room…to always knock first. This is just a precaution. I’d hate for my kids to see a nip slip or something. Who knows what happens when you rigamaroo (wiggle around) in your sleep?
“What do you want?” I said. No answer. I sat up and looked at the faint light streaming under the door. Normally there is a shadow there if one of the kids is standing on the other side. There was nothing. I'm not sure exactly what would be scarier...a knock, no shadow, and no answer or a knock, a shadow, and no answer.  The verdict hasn't come back yet on that one.  A shadow would mean there's a chance of a demon clown.
I managed to convinced myself that I dreamed the knock but just to be sure I got up to go check on the kids.

Now, I love to watch scary movies and the whole time I was walking to the bedroom it was like a scene from a movie…slow motion of a hand reaching to turn a doorknob.
Enter Friday the 13th soundtrack here.

Even the walk across the house to their rooms was a bit surreal. When I peeked into their rooms, both of them were soundly sleeping. Even the dog was snoring, loudly I might add, curled up next to my daughter. So, I went back to my room and cozied back into the bed under the comforter. After a while, I fell back asleep.
In my “dream”, I was sleeping on my side when I felt a presence. I tried to roll over to see what was behind me. The presence seemed to put me almost in a half nelson. I fought with it to a point that I toppled off the bed and hit my head on my dresser. During the time I was wrestling with whatever it was, I must have sensed it was all a dream. I tried to convince myself to wake up, trying to will my eyes open.
When I finally managed to force myself awake it was around 4 in the morning, my heart was racing and my head ached. When I reached up to the spot throbbing on my cranium, I found a knot the size of a quarter. I had that fuzzy “I just woke up” feeling. Of course, in my experience that feeling is the same as the “I’ve been knocked unconscious” one.  I guess it's possible that I was thrashing my sleep and may have hit my head some way on the head board.
I tried to settle back down in my bed. Then I heard the familiar sound that always seems to accompany dreams such as these…the hoot of an owl. I looked out of my window to see if I could see the culprit. It took me a few moments to locate it in the darkness outside. I saw it as it in the tree as it turned its head around to face me. It seemed as if we made eye contact just before it spread its wings and flew away.

As I’ve stated a lot lately, sleep and I just aren’t getting along well right now. So just imagine my disappointment (also known as utter terror) when this event transpired and I was left on the verge of a panic attack in my bed trying to settle myself back down to sleep. My body and mind were just beginning to relax enough to drift back to Land of Nod when there was a knock at the bedroom door again. It startled me to a point that I nearly jumped out of my skin. It’s probably good that I had used the restroom just before climbing back into bed or I would have been changing the sheets.
This time when I called out, “What do you want?” My daughter answered back. She said she had a bad dream and wanted to sleep in my bed. How sad is it that I was relieved she wanted to sleep in the bed with me? I mean, good thing my seven year old is here to protect her scaredy cat mommy.

  3. I am so scared of clowns. I heard murderers used to get jobs as clowns to hide from the police...
Hope your dreams are better tonight:)
I already follow just stopping in to say hello!

  4. Like I said about the picture with the orb you have a spirit. First of all you saw light under the door that is good.

As for the wrestling, you are wrestling your fear no the spirit. you have to let the fear go and I would even say try to communicate with it.

The owl is the sign that makes me know all is well with this and it is a good spirit. Owls are very revered in all cultures. Here is what symbolism.com says...I know this is good...feel it in my core!

If an owl has visited you, an incredible gift has been bestowed. Also, keep in mind that animals are only called to those who share the same energy. In other words, you hold within you some of the very same symbolic attributes the owl represents.

To illustrate, you may have abilities to know things that others do not know. It may be likely you have very strong intuitive abilities that can be fine-tuned. Further, you may be strong-willed person, and/or have a protective side to you.

These owl sightings may be messages for you to develop your education further. Or, the owl may be trying to tell you to develop your intuition further.

Owls also show themselves as a sign of warning (no, not of death). You simply need to pay close attention to people around you - owls are incredibly perceptive - you are probably perceptive too - use your powers of perception around new people you may meet. Not everyone is as nice, or “cool” as they seem to be.

Stay calm and let go of the fear...breathe and open yourself up to the experience. Ask yourself this...Aside from the fear of the unknown do you really feel this what ever it is is bad or evil? if you stay calm and ask yourself this you will see this is a blessing! The owl is a sign of that!

  5. Just tell the owls to stop bothering you for a while and let you get some rest. I don't like owls at night for the above reasons, my kids don't like they any time of the day. Preston says now that he doesn't have a window in his room, they come visit him through the ceiling. Which is creepier than clowns, seriously.

    Did you make that up?

  9. @Doreen I never heard that but it sure makes clowns all the more freakier.
@De I see the owl as a sort of spirit guide...even though there always seems to be something creepy going on when they are around. At least there is a constant.
@RM Through the ceiling?!?! I think I just shit myself. SERIOUSLY!
@Doug No, my husband's grandfather would always use it to descibe the kids sleeping habits because the would move around so much while they slept. Another one you might like is Chookey. It means crappy or poorly made.
@Jewell She asked to hold my hand because she was scared...lol
@Falen Just think...I didn't even pick a real scary clown either. I could have used the one from IT.

  10. Methinks a good sleeping pill may be in order. That way if there are any creepy noises, you won't notice them. At least you'd get some sleep that way...

  11. If it was a demon clown, the knocking probably would have been followed by a very faint, very creepy, single toot of one those freaking rubber horns.

  12. I read this before I went to bed last night...Not a good idea...I don't tend to have nightmares or bad dreams (*knock on wood*) The thing that scares me is when I'm in a dream within a dream...and I'm aware of it...That's what happened last night...I was really tired before I fell asleep (and had just read your blog)...so I fell asleep quickly...then it starts...I think I hear something banging in the backyard...which is right behind our bedroom wall...I tell myself...you're dreaming...wake up and it will go way...so...I try to wake myself up...finally I'm out of that dream...but still dreaming...the thing that freaks me out so bad is everything looks real...my dark bedroom looks exactly like it would if I would wake up for real...when I opened my eyes in the dream I was looking in the direction of the closet...everything seemed to be glowing...so I start blinking to clear my vision...then I see glowing shapes...Just picture an acid trip...Now I know I have to wake myself out of that dream...I physically have to make myself jump to wake up...which is harder than it sounds because I can't move...so when I finally wake up...I am sweaty, my heart is racing, and I'm scared to go back to sleep because I have, in the past, fallen right back into those dreams in dreams before...

I will definitely wait to read your Scary Stories in the daylight :)

  14. @MT The last time I took Ambien I basically hallucinated and saw "bubble people" floating in my room.
@Bryan Or possibly the circus theme song...
@Katie What makes you think I know what an acid trip is like?? lol
@Opal Thanks. Glad you liked it.

  17. @Debs I was seeing faces through the metal closets...as if someone were pressing their face against plastic. Scared the crap out of me!
@Katie I was teasing. Bubble people are disturbing.

  18. After your description of the Bubble People...I agree...disturbing...I'm officially disturbed...and by they way...the Bubble People would be a horrible description for my glowing shapes...You'll just have to deal with the acid trip description...lol...just use your imagination :)

  19. BTW...in case you are interested...I tend to try herbal/natural stuff before big pharma. I get wigged out when the list of possible side effects tends to be longer than I am tall. =)

The sleeping pills that I use are called "Sleep" (original, eh?) by Nature Made... The husband sometimes uses Alteril which is basically the same thing but he says that he's way more groggy the next morning after those than he is when he takes mine... Both of them we got at Walmart. =)

Just thought I'd throw it out there. =)

  20. @Katie I'm thinking Beavis and Butthead movie...desert scene.
@Jewell That's what I've been using. I guess being sick is not helping it work. It was working before with no problem.

  21. That's definitely closer...minus the freaky looking faces...

  22. It's funny how I laugh at scary movies or even fall asleep whenever I watch them. Unfortunately though, I am not invincible. I can feel fear too. I hate sharp or pointy objects, pain, clowns and being alone with no one to turn to. We all have our own fears. We just have to learn to stay calm and focus whenever we feel them. We need to think of happy thoughts so that we won't be bothered by them anymore. I know you'll overcome your fears somehow. Good luck!

  23. I thought it was rigamaroll...maybe not. In any case, clearly you are haunted by a great many demons and you should think about taking a break from the zombie movies. Also, being you are faithless, God is obviously torturing you with the spooks. THE POWER OF PRAYER GIRLY! THE POWER OF PRAYER!

  24. "Dear 4 in the morning,

You and Asha have got to stop meeting like this. She'd much rather sleep with you. Give her a break."

If I was you I'd have the dog sleep with me at night. The only reason I agree to let Padawan go in at two in the morning for the mandatory overtime is because I have Choo Choo to protect me from Kane. Dogs are demon/ghost/monster proof.

  25. @Katie I knew I'd get if I just kept trying...lol.
@Kittypaws I thought thinking happy thoughts was what made you fly in Peter Pan...or maybe that was the cocaine.
@Scott Doesn;t God have bigger things to worry about like, oh I don't know, cancer?!?!
@Chanel My kids fight over the dog at night. I just stay out of that!
